After a long day of surfing perfect waves, you’ll undoubtedly work up an appetite. What is a Warung

Before we dive into the various warungs, let’s take a moment to understand what they are and how they have become an integral part of the local lifestyle. Warungs are family-run, local eateries serving affordable meals to the local population’s tastes and preferences. These humble establishments epitomize Indonesian culture and cuisine, offering a variety of delectable dishes that showcase the vibrant flavours of this vast archipelago. Warungs also have a place in surf culture in Indonesia. Before the high-class bars and restaurants lined the coastline in Bali, all surfers had to select from were local warungs. It is not uncommon for surfers here to frequent the same warungs on a regular basis, sometimes even getting to know the staff on a first-name basis.

Warungs are known for their extensive selection of pre-made dishes displayed behind a glass divider, and are where your rupiah goes the furthest. Beyond their delicious offerings, warungs provide an immersive local experience to tourists, always welcoming visitors in the warmth of Indonesian hospitality. Whether you seek a quick, budget-friendly meal or a taste of local culture, warungs are an indispensable part of the Indonesian experience.

Warung Bu Jonny
