Surf Yoga and Wellness Retreat Benefits

The benefits of a surf and yoga wellness retreat come from combining two things that genuinely reinforce each other: structured surf coaching that builds real skill, and a yoga and recovery routine that supports your overall wellness and keeps your body able to make use of it. Wellness here isn’t a side perk bolted onto a surf trip — it’s the framework that makes the surfing progress possible in the first place: proper rest, mobility work, and mindful movement between sessions so you’re not just sore and depleted by day three. Put the two together properly, and a week does considerably more for your physical and mental wellbeing than a normal surf trip or a normal yoga break on its own.

Why surfing and yoga work well together

The two disciplines are not paired for novelty. Yoga builds the core strength, hip flexibility, shoulder mobility, and balance that surfing asks of your body every time you pop up or turn, and the breathing and focus work carries over into the water as well, where staying calm in a crowded line-up or a bigger set matters as much as technique. Surfing, in turn, gives yoga somewhere practical to prove itself, rather than staying purely theoretical.

Our daily yoga sessions run through Vinyasa, Hatha, Power, and Iyengar styles, in an open-air studio, and are taught at a level that suits complete beginners and experienced practitioners in the same class.

Faster surfing progression through structured coaching

A retreat is not just extra time in the water, it is coaching built to make that time count. Photo and video analysis, land and pool drills, and surf skate training are all included, so instead of repeating the same habits across a week, each session builds on feedback from the last. You can read more about how the coaching side works, including video review and one-on-one sessions, on our surf coaching and video analysis page.

Recovery built around two sessions a day

Two surf sessions a day, plus yoga, takes something out of you — which is exactly why wellness is built into the daily rhythm, not treated as an afterthought. Ice bath and sauna contrast therapy is available daily, reducing inflammation after the morning session and helping your body reset and recover before the next one. Massage can be arranged through camp via our dedicated therapist, and most guests find it makes a real difference to their overall wellness by the second half of the week. You can see the full recovery and wellness setup on our surf recovery page.

Facilities that support the rest of the day

Between sessions, the camp itself gives you plenty of ways to fill the time. There is an infinity pool with a poolside gazebo, hammocks and sun loungers, an outdoor callisthenics gym, a covered sports area with weights, boxing gear and an Indo board, a half-pipe mini ramp, and a ping pong table if you want something more sociable. Our facilities page covers everything on site.

Food that actually fuels the week

Two physical sessions a day only work if the food supports them. Meals are made in-house by our own chefs using locally sourced ingredients, with breakfast offering a choice of two dishes from fourteen options, and lunch served all-you-can-eat, covering vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and omnivore diets without anyone being an afterthought. Saturdays bring a barbecue or wood-fired pizza evening. You can see the full menu on our food page.

Evenings that add something beyond the schedule

With only thirteen rooms, guests tend to actually get to know each other, and a dedicated social coordinator runs a different outing most evenings, from the Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu Temple to sunset at Dreamland Beach, live music at The Cashew Tree, and drinks at Single Fin to close out the week. None of it is compulsory, and the plan shifts around whichever guests happen to be staying that week, but it is a large part of why a week built around two physical disciplines does not end up feeling like a course. Our social activities page has the full weekly rundown.

More than surfing and yoga alone

The retreat also includes wellness discussions and journaling sessions alongside the daily surf and yoga schedule, giving the week some structure beyond the physical side. If you want to add to any of this, whether that is extra yoga classes, a massage, or guided meditation, our yoga, meditation, and wellness page covers what else is available, both during a retreat and as a standalone package outside retreat dates.

Who a combined retreat suits

This works for complete beginners to either surfing or yoga, as well as people who already practise regularly. Groups stay small, and the schedule is built to flex around what each guest actually wants from the week, whether that is two surf sessions a day and yoga in the evening, or an easier week with more time on the mat and by the pool.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need surfing or yoga experience to join?

No. Both are taught at every level, and the daily schedule can lean more towards surfing or more towards yoga depending on what suits you.

What is actually included in a retreat?

Accommodation, daily yoga, surf coaching, breakfast and lunch, airport transfers, a massage, and access to the ice bath, sauna, and pool are all included, alongside wellness discussions, journaling, and the nightly social activities. Current inclusions and pricing are listed on the retreat page, linked below.

Will I actually improve at surfing, or is it mostly about yoga?

Both get proper attention. The coaching side includes photo and video analysis, land and pool drills, and surf skate training, built to produce measurable progress rather than a week of unstructured surfing alongside the yoga schedule.

Can I skip a session if I need rest?

Yes. The schedule is built to be adjusted, and guests are encouraged to rest, use the pool, or book a massage instead of trying to join every activity on offer.

If a week that combines proper surf coaching with daily yoga and real recovery sounds like what you are after, our surf and yoga wellness retreat runs year-round from camp.
