Video Tips Advanced surfers
Introduction
To complement our Surfing Tutorials for Advanced surfers, we have also compiled some practical videos on surf equipment and advanced surfing manoeuvres.
As an advanced surfer, the challenge is to ride a smaller board and progress your surfing. These tips are for L3 and L4 surfers but may also be of interest to L5 surfers.

How not to lose your board
Advice on what type of leash to buy and tips to not lose your board when surfing. As you progress into bigger surf, a lost board can mean a long swim in or a danger to other surfers, so a strong leash and a correctly fitted rail saver matter more than ever.
Quad or Tri Fin
Mega Semadhi, two-time winner of the Rip Curl Cup, is a Bingin local and knows exactly what equipment works best at Padang Padang and Bingin. Mega explains the boards and fins he rides on the Uluwatu surf breaks, and when to choose a fast, drivey quad over a more pivotal thruster.
Advanced Tips for Surfing in Uluwatu & Bingin
These videos are tips to improve your riding of different types of waves. We start with a powerful fast wave at Uluwatu. Second is how to get barrelled, and third is how to make it through fast sections by pumping the surfboard.
4 tips for powerful waves
1. Make the fast sections in the functional stance.
2. Look at the lip when the wave slows down.
3. Pivot on the trailing arm to make a bottom turn.
4. Top turn with arms wide open.
How to get barrelled
More than 90% of surfers never get barrelled and never experience the ultimate surfing thrill. This video is for you if you have never had a barrel or are not yet confident riding them. A wave barrels when it jumps quickly from deep to shallow water, throwing the lip forward — the science we cover in our 20 essential surf-science questions. Bingin is the easiest barrel in the world and one of the spots we use to teach how to ride the barrel.
If you are an advanced surfer, we offer surf guiding at Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang and other spots on the Bukit, chosen to match the conditions on any given day — something we explain in our 20 essential questions about surfing conditions in Bali.
