Bingin Rights is the quiet, overlooked wave sitting between two of the Bukit’s biggest names — Bingin and Dreamland. It is always smaller than both of its neighbours, and on most days there is nobody out — it is almost a secret spot, hiding in plain sight in one of the most surfed stretches of coastline in Bali. Our free PDF guide to all 73 Bali surf spots covers Bingin Rights and every other break in Bali, mapped to the right tide, swell and wind.

Understanding the Bingin Rights Wave

Bingin Rights breaks predictably over a boil in the same spot every time, which makes it one of the easier waves on the Bukit to line up — there is no guesswork about where to sit. That predictability is the wave’s main appeal. It is fat and can be hard to catch, but rewarding when you do.

Smaller waves tend not to break at all here, as the water sitting over the boil is too deep for them to feel the bottom. Bigger waves are a different story — they come in fast and require good positioning to catch cleanly. The ride itself is short, running into a deep water channel that ends the wave quickly. It is not a world-class break by any stretch, but that is exactly what makes it useful: an excellent option for intermediate surfers who find the crowd at Bingin intimidating, or the size and speed of Impossibles and Dreamland too much to handle.

Best Time and Conditions at Bingin Rights

Bingin Rights only breaks at low tide, and only on a bigger swell. Outside that combination, the water sitting over the boil is generally too deep for a wave to stand up at all. When the tide and swell do align, arrive ready for a fast-breaking, fat wave that rewards good positioning over a big, flashy take-off.

Safety and Dangers at Bingin Rights

Bingin Rights is one of the more forgiving waves on this stretch of the Bukit, but it still demands a bit of care. On bigger swells the waves arrive quickly and require good positioning to catch — misjudge it and you can find yourself out of position for the set. There are rocks on the inside near the exit, so take care when leaving the water at the end of your session.

Access to Bingin Rights

Access is via a narrow paved lane that leads directly to steps overlooking the break. Entry and paddle-out are easy from here — the main thing to watch for is the rocks on the inside when exiting at the end of your session.

Can Beginners Surf Bingin Rights?

No. Bingin Rights only works in one narrow window — low tide on a bigger swell — and when it is working, the waves arrive fast and demand good positioning to catch cleanly. That combination makes it a poor place to learn. Baby Padang is a far better beginner option in the Uluwatu area. Book a beginner surf lesson and we will take you to the right break for the conditions on the day.

Can Intermediate Surfers Surf Bingin Rights?

Yes. This is exactly the kind of wave intermediates should be looking for on the Bukit — predictable, uncrowded and a short, manageable ride into a deep water channel. It is a natural next step for surfers who find the crowd at Bingin intimidating or the size of Impossibles and Dreamland too much, without the heavy consequences of the bigger reefs nearby. Join our intermediate surf program and we will assess conditions and guide you to the right spot on the day.
