Uluwatu’s Best Restaurants: World-class dining near world-class surf

While once an empty cliffside with only a dirt path and a rickety ladder down to the surf, the Uluwatu area has grown up nicely. No-frills warungs and budget surfer accommodation have evolved to match the quality of the waves out front and the people that call this place home. There is something for every taste and budget in Uluwatu, with many restaurants popping up in the growing hamlet of Padang Padang. Let us review some of the finest flavours in the Uluwatu area to complement Bali’s Premier Surf & Yoga Resort. From the captivating ambience of Tabu to the laid-back charm of Drifter, get ready to savour a delectable fusion of global cuisines after a day of surfing perfect waves.

Bortolo

Bortolo offers an exceptional experience for those seeking the refined flavours of European cuisine. This stylish restaurant features a selection of exquisite French and Italian dishes, meticulously crafted to perfection. Despite its small menu, every dish is a culinary masterpiece.

Bortolo’s chic black-and-white theme exudes style and class, making it the ideal setting for a celebration meal. Since its opening in 2022, the restaurant has quickly established itself as the go-to spot for special occasions. Among its many delights, the lamb keftas stand out as a must-try dish, offering exceptional quality at a reasonable price.

Whether you are planning a celebration or simply looking to indulge in sophisticated European flavours, Bortolo is the place to be.

Tabu

Blending the vibrant flavours of Mexico with Japanese cuisine, Tabu delivers a unique upmarket dining experience on the bottom floor, with island beats fuelling a dance party just upstairs. Here you will find sophisticatedly created Mexican and Japanese dishes beautifully paired with stylish decor and great music. The guacamole is prepared and served at your table and is highly recommended. Tabu is under the same ownership as Ours and is, in our opinion, the better of the two restaurants. They have covered the outside dining area and have DJs most nights.

Ours

This stylish restaurant is located next door to Bortolo and is an excellent option for expertly crafted Mediterranean dishes and much more. From authentic pasta and seafood to burgers, this well-run establishment is a surf camp favourite for its high-quality menu. This is a very popular restaurant, and reservations are recommended. Service of food is always incredibly fast. Our recommendation is chilli garlic prawns. Wednesday is Steak Night, featuring tender and succulent cuts, while Tuesday and Thursday are Pasta Nights!

Masonry

Immerse yourself in Mediterranean flavours at Masonry Uluwatu (formerly Mason), one of the most popular dining spots in the area, near the entrance to Suluban (Uluwatu beach). Due to its high demand, we highly recommend booking a table in advance. The Uluwatu sibling of the well-loved Canggu original, Masonry is led by Group Executive Chef Ben Cross and specialises in wood-fired Mediterranean cooking. Signature dishes include Lamb Kleftiko, Seared Swordfish and 48-hour slow-cooked ribs, alongside much-loved wood-fired breads and house-cured charcuterie. Set in a stylish environment with an open kitchen and a relaxed ambience, Masonry is renowned for its fresh, flavourful ingredients and inventive cocktails such as the Margarita A La Masonry. Whether you are dining indoors or relaxing in the courtyard after a surf, Masonry offers a foodie journey that matches Uluwatu’s chilled-out coastal vibe.

Ulu Garden

Ulu Garden is more than just a restaurant—it is a sanctuary set in the lush greenery of Uluwatu, where nature, culture, and community come together in perfect harmony. Celebrating Balinese tradition through live music, art, and cultural performances, this vibrant space offers an immersive experience that nourishes more than just your appetite. The menu is thoughtfully crafted as medicine for the body, mind, and soul. Using the freshest locally sourced ingredients, Ulu Garden serves up wholesome, flavour-packed dishes like rich Balinese curries, fresh-caught fish, and nourishing plant-based options that celebrate the island’s abundance. But what truly sets Ulu Garden apart is its soulful social atmosphere. It is a place where locals, travellers, families, and creatives naturally gather—sharing meals, stories, and spontaneous laughter under the shade of tropical trees. Whether you are sipping an herbal tonic after yoga, enjoying a soulful acoustic set at sunset, or connecting with new friends over a long communal table, Ulu Garden invites you to slow down, drop in, and feel part of something special.

Teja

Perched high on the cliffs of Uluwatu, Teja offers open-air dining with panoramic ocean views and a relaxed, elegant setting. The kitchen centres around live-fire cooking, combining Balinese ingredients with modern techniques to create bold, smoky flavours. Seafood takes the spotlight here, with dishes such as dry-aged pink snapper, BBQ octopus, and wild Papuan prawns prepared over wood and charcoal. Fresh local produce and thoughtful presentation tie everything together, while the design blends natural textures and soft lighting to match the sunset backdrop. It is an ideal spot for a post-surf dinner or an evening out in Uluwatu. Arrive before sunset to enjoy the changing colours over the ocean and a menu that reflects both Bali’s coastal character and its growing culinary scene.

Yuki

For an unforgettable Japanese-inspired dining experience in the heart of Uluwatu, Yuki is a must-visit. From delicate sashimi and artfully crafted sushi rolls to bold small plates like crispy rice with spicy tuna and tuna tacos, each dish is made with precision, passion, and the finest ingredients. The chef works closely with local fishermen to source the freshest catch daily, bringing the ocean straight to your plate in the most flavourful way. The vibrant menu is perfectly complemented by handcrafted cocktails, sake, and a relaxed, beachy atmosphere that captures the spirit of the Bukit. Whether you are refuelling after a surf session or settling in for a post-sunset dinner, Yuki delivers a warm welcome, beautiful presentation, and flavours that leave a lasting impression.
